The Matches
November 19, 2016 @ 7:00 pm
After a successful tour of Australia and select cities in the U.S., the unexpected reunion of The Matches continues with an East Bay stop to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their critically-acclaimed sophomore album, Decomposer. Hailing from Oakland, the original line-up of the band – Justin San Souci, Jon Devoto, Matt Whalen and Shawn Harris – will be playing Decomposer in its entirety for the first time ever, along with songs from throughout the band’s catalog, including the band’s first new music since 2009. Originally released in 2006 on Epitaph Records, Decomposer draws upon the band’s diverse musical influences and highlights the the band’s genre-bending songwriting, effortlessly moving between art-rock, punk influences, and alternative rock. Drawing upon the skills of an illustrious roster of producers, from Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus to Goldfinger’s John Feldmann, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong to 311’s Nick Hexum, and Bad Religion and Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz (among others), the album has remained a fan-favorite and contains many of the staples of the band’s live sets between its release in 2006 and the band’s hiatus in 2009. In addition, the album spawned the award-winning music video for “Salty Eyes”, co-directed by The Matches’ singer and guitarist, Shawn Harris. Opportunities for The Matches to perform together are few and far between, so do not miss this chance to see the band on stage again in their home environs of the East Bay in honor of the 10-year anniversary of Decomposer. You belong.
