Eastwind Books of Berkeley’s fundraiser with Chef James Syhabout

Join us for a book presentation on Hawker Fare: Stories & Recipes from a Refugee Chef’s Isan Thai & Lao Roots. Chef James Syhabout will share his inspiring story of his family refugee migration from Laos to the East Bay (Alameda, Oakland, Concord), growing up in Oakland, working in Thai restaurants and choosing culinary school, leading him to European kitchens and finally back to Laos.
Chef Syhabout owns several restaurants in the Bay Area: the Michelin-starred Commis, CDP the bar next door, Hawker Fare, and his latest venture, Hawking Bird.
Program introduction by Professor Lok Siu, an Associate Professor at the UC Berkeley Department of Ethnic Studies and Affiliated Faculty of Berkeley Food Institute.
Small plates and refreshments provided.
