Poland Reborn: A State Between Democracy and Fascism
February 26th 5:30 PM
RVSP by February 22nd
John Connolly, PhD History Professor at U.C. Berkeley will bring to light Poland’s attitude toward Jews after the end of World War I in 1918. On the one hand it accommodated the demands of freedom fighters; on the other, it lapsed into authoritarian rule. Developments after 1926 led to xenophobia and discrimination yet fascists were arrested. By the late 1930’s modest hopes for reform arose when Polish and Jewish parties left of center collaborated and Poland became first nation saying no to Hitler’s expanding rule.
