The City of Berkeley Zero Waste Commission invites you to provide input on a proposed City of Berkeley Ordinance designed to reduce single-use foodware and litter.
City of Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, or one of his representatives, will provide an introduction to the proposed Ordinance. A presentation will follow to explain the key aspects of the proposed Ordinance, including case studies of businesses that have successfully reduced single-use, disposable foodware. Public and stakeholder input will be solicited from 6:30-7:30pm.

Background: On April 24, 2018, Berkeley City Council referred a proposed Berkeley Single Use Foodware and Litter Reduction Ordinance to the Zero Waste Commission to review, solicit input from the public and key stakeholders (including restaurants and other food retailers), and provide recommendations back to Council.
The September 6 meeting will be the third and final special public comment session held by the Foodware Subcommittee on this topic. All public comment received, including all written comment and comment provided at all previous regular meetings of the Zero Waste Commission, will be analyzed and will help to inform the Zero Waste Commission’s recommendations to Council. The Zero Waste Commission plans to discuss and approve their recommendations to Council at the September 24, 2018 Zero Waste Commission meeting @ 7pm at the North Berkeley Senior Center.
Written public comment is welcomed. Please submit written comment to Heidi Obermeit, Zero Waste Commission Secretary, at hobermeit@cityofberkeley.info. Written comments will be included in the agenda packet posted on the Commission webpage here one week prior to the September 24 Commission meeting. Hard copies will be available at the meeting.
