SUMMARY:Jupiter Presents: Nathan Clevenger Group
DESCRIPTION:Oakland-born guitarist/composer Nathan Clevenger slides in to support of the release of his latest album\, Observatory\, highlighting Nathan’s take on modern jazz\, which he describes as precise Chamber Jazz harmonic/melodic elements through a volatile jazz ensemble. “Clevenger’s writing takes a lot from the swing era\, but it’s packed with odd time signatures\, twisty compositions\, and passages of improvisation that go well beyond the old concept of a solo. Peppy\, often pretty\, and just a little weird. – Craig Matsumoto\, Memory Select\nhttp://www.nathanclevengermusic.com \nFacebook \n

SUMMARY:Freight & Salvage Presents: Lula Wiles
DESCRIPTION:Long before they were in a band together\, the members of Lula Wiles were singing folk songs and trading fiddle tunes at camp in Maine. \nNow\, the release of What Will We Do on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings places the group squarely in line with some of its deepest influences\, from the protest anthems of Woody Guthrie to the trailblazing songs of Elizabeth Cotten and Hazel Dickens. (Even the band’s name is a twist on an old Carter Family song.) \n\n\n\n \nThey infuse their songs with distinctly modern sounds: pop hooks\, distorted electric guitars\, and dissonant multi-layered vocals\, all employed in the service of songs that reclaim folk music in their own voice. \n\n\nDoors open at 7.\n\nFacebook | Instagram | Website\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Freight & Salvage Presents: JJ Grey Solo - Front Porch Sessions
DESCRIPTION:From the days of playing greasy local juke joints to headlining major festivals\, JJ Grey remains an unfettered\, blissful performer\, singing with a blue-collared spirit over the bone-deep grooves of his compositions. His presence before an audience is something startling and immediate\, at times a funk rave-up\, other times a sort of mass-absolution for the mortal weaknesses that make him and his audience human. \n \n\nOnstage\, Grey delivers his songs with compassion and a relentless honesty\, but perhaps not until Ol’ Glory has a studio record captured the fierceness and intimacy that defines a Grey live performance. “I wanted that crucial lived-in feel\,” Grey says of Ol’ Glory\, and here he hits his mark. On the new album\, Grey and his current Mofro lineup offer grace and groove in equal measure\, with an easygoing quality to the production that makes those beautiful muscular drum-breaks sound as though the band has set up in your living room. \nDoors open at 7. \n\nFacebook | Instagram | Website
