Arrested Development at UC Theatre

September 23, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Pioneers of the conscious rap game this Saturday, 9/23
Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm

Formed in Atlanta in 1988, Arrested Development was founded by Speech and his ex-best friend Headliner as a positive, Afrocentric alternative to the gangsta rap popular in the early 1990s.

It has been twenty years since a new group called Arrested Development slammed the gangsta dominated world of hip hop with defiant lyrics of hope. Apparently the world was ready for the change as AD became the first ever hip-hop artist to receive the “best new artist” Grammy, (a distinction it still maintains today in that category). In addition, the group also received a Grammy award for “best rap single” for their anthemic prayer-like hit song, Tennessee.
